Financial, Club Constitution & Volunteers Information

Finances

Football in general is an expensive sport. The flow of money is up to the national body and not down to codes, like in rugby.  For us, it is driven at club level by the clubs themselves.  As a general guide, only 30% of revenue received by the club is through membership fees so to break even our club board must recover 70% through other means.

This is achieved through successful funding applications, actively seeking sponsorship and partner donations, club events such as our holiday programmes & tournaments and club merchandise sales. Funding applications are becoming increasingly harder to achieve. There is less money available and there are more submissions across multiple codes and bodies, which makes it extremely difficult to operate.  As the club increases in size, it requires significantly more funding and support to continue to offer football opportunties in our community.

To put that in perspective, should these things not be achieved, the average membership fee per player would be significantly higher than our crrent fees to cover these costs, so support of the club by our external partners and ponsors, along with our club events, is vital to keep cost increases lower.  As an example, Waibop have signalled a 15% YOY(Year on year) increase for senior football over the next 5 years.

Constitution

Papamoa FC is in Year 3 of its constitution, having been re-approved under the amended 2022 Incorporated Socieities Act. This means current Board members will be limited in their ability to have multiple membership types. It also means Board members involved in other areas of the club will be excluded on decisioning, to effectively limit conflict of Interest. Board members must all consent to being members and confirm they are not disqualified. Board membership under the new act is closer to that of a director. Day to day tasks previously undertaken by board members wll need to be undertaken by other volunteers or further paid staff.

Volunteers

2026 again saw a huge dip in volunteerism across the club, outside of our club coaches and allocators. This has been a trend over the last 5 years and not just at Papamoa FC.  It's in general accross the country over a range of sporting codes. Papamoa FC actively call for support through our club newsletters, emails and website but continued to struggle for support. We again faced the potential of dropping teams from playing because they didn't have a coach or team manager to run them.  This substantially increases the workload of the club to either reallocate players or, as a last resort, disband the team, which we try to avoid at all costs.

As predicted, in 2024 we increased our player count from approx. 850 members to 935.  Wih thegrowth of the region, especially Papamoa, we are again forcasting an increase of roughly 8% in player numbers to over 1000 members. We achieve year or year growth of circa 7%, the largest in the country. It is likely we will be the largest club in Waibop in 2027. We really need our community volunteer support, so please just give a couple of hours a week to let kids play.  You'll be surprised how rewarding t is, for you and for the kids. Please register on the following link here
